250mm f5.6 Dobsonian | 32mmSWA to 6mmWA | Lumicon UHC | Spent a lot of time on this object. Very hard to make out. Faint object in the right position - in a spectacular
field of stars. Appeared to vary a bit to the eye as many planetary nebulae do. Filter didn't help. |

250mm f5.6 Dobsonian | 26mmPlossl | | Visible naked eye, even here in the suburbs. Large, relatively rich, main mass about 30' across.
Bright orange field star on the N-edge, and a similarly coloured star within the S half of the cluster. In the SE corner is a equal component binary, with a fainter
red star nearby that could be part of a multiple system. [This possible system is fainter than the mag 6 binary shown on the Sky Atlas Chart 25, which takes higher
magnification to resolve well]. |
NGC2640 | 08:37.4 | -55 07 | Galaxy | 11.1 | 2.2' x 1.9' | 48MLY | April 24 2001 | Cataract |

250mm f5.6 Dobsonian | 32mmSWA to 6mmWA | Lumicon UHC | Very similar to IC2501 in Carina. Easy to star-hop to right spot where there is a possibly not quite star-like object. |

250mm f5.6 Dobsonian | 26mm Plossl | | A compact cluster: 3 stars in a line, one of them distinctly orange, the others bluish, and the middle one a wide double Very pretty, S-shaped cluster with the aforementioned trio of stars coming down the slope of the 'S'. |

250mm f5.6 Dobsonian | 26mm Plossl | | In the same field as NGC3293. Shaped like the number '6' with the curve pointing toward NGC3293, and about the same size as that nearby cluster. |

NGC 3372 Eta Carinae Nebula | 10:43.8 | -59 52 | Emission Nebula | | 120' x 120' | 6KLY | June 27 1998 | Mt Keira |
250mm f5.6 Dobsonian | 26mm Plossl | | I noted on the night only that it was 'superb'. |
NGC 3372 Eta Carinae Region | 10:43.8 | -59 52 | Emission Nebula | | 120' x 120' | 6KLY | Jan 5 2003 | Wiruna |
250mm f5.6 Dobsonian | 32mmSWA; 13.8mmSWA | UHC | Fantastic with the 32mm. With the 13.8mm and the UHC filter the nebulosity is absoluely
superb. Especially remarkable is the Eta Carina 'eye' embedded in the 'head' and fish-shaped nebula stretching beyond it. Dark lanes near the star itself are
amazing also. |
NGC 3372 Eta Carinae Region | 10:43.8 | -59 52 | Emission Nebula | | 120' x 120' | 6KLY | June 14 2018 | Culburra |
400mm f4.5 Dobsonian | 30mmUWA; 8-42mmZoom | UHC | The 30mm eyepiece gives 60x and a field of 1.3 degrees. Even then the nebula complex
over-fills the field. Yellow eta-Carina sits in the brightest tear-drop shaped part of the complex with fainter swathes of nebula fanning away from it. Also large
dark areas. With the UHC the nebula becomes amazingly bright while eta-Carina turns red and point-like. Using the 24-8mm zoom eyepiece [no filter] the lobes of
eta-Carina become more visible as magnification increases. |

200mm f5.6 Dobsonian | 13.8mmSWA | UHC | This is part of a nebula complex and is the largest so was able to pick it. Beautiful field of bright nebula
but hard to distinguish each separate object. |
NGC 3603 | 11:15.4 | -61 15 | Emission Nebula | 9.1 | 12' | | April 14 2007 | Belanglo |
200mm f5.6 Dobsonian | 13.8mmSWA | UHC | Very large nebula in the same field as the complex around NGC3576. |
